Our approach
HokoMe uses personal information to provide and protect the marketplace. We handle personal information in line with this policy and applicable New Zealand privacy law.
Please do not place sensitive identity, banking, login or precise location information in a public listing or message unless it is necessary and you understand who will see it.
Information we use
The information we handle depends on how you use HokoMe.
- Account and contact details, settings and account security information.
- Listings, photos, videos, profile information, ratings, enquiries, messages and reports you create or send.
- Device, browser, log and usage information needed to operate, secure and improve HokoMe.
- Information supplied by other members, service providers or authorities where it is lawful and relevant to safety, fraud prevention or compliance.
Why we use it
We use information to administer accounts, publish listings, enable enquiries and messages, provide support, maintain security, investigate suspected fraud or policy breaches, improve HokoMe, and meet legal obligations.
Some listing information is public by design, including the listing content, general location and the profile or trader details that the listing displays. Information you choose to share with another member may be used by that member outside HokoMe.
Storage, sharing and retention
We use reasonable safeguards designed to protect information. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so protect your account credentials and tell us promptly if you think someone has accessed your account without permission.
We may use service providers to operate HokoMe and may disclose information where required or permitted by law, or where reasonably necessary to protect people, investigate abuse, or enforce our policies. We keep information only for as long as reasonably needed for those purposes, subject to legal, security and record-keeping requirements.
Your privacy choices
You may ask HokoMe to access or correct personal information we hold about you. Use HokoMe support and clearly label the request as a privacy request so we can verify your identity and respond appropriately.
If you have a privacy concern, contact HokoMe support first. You may also have the right to complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in New Zealand.
